Oscar-Winning Movie Star Cheeseball

Updated: Mar 8, 2023

Are you still waiting for YOUR star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Here’s the next best thing. It’s perfect for this year’s Oscar party, or anytime! This one's a website (and WPIX11-premiere exclusive), not included in my best-selling cookbook. Recipe below!

But first, here it is in its big in-studio reveal on television, February 28, 2023.

Another in-studio view. Kinda pretty, right? 🧀 ❤️

OMG here it is: the big cheese!

Oscar-Winning Movie Star Cheeseball

Serves a party of 40

8 ounces pepper jack cheese, shredded

8 ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened

Generous dashes of your favorite hot sauce

Generous shakes of Worcestershire sauce

About 1/3 cup mayo

Bunch of scallions, green and white parts, sliced thin

8 ounces (or more) whipped cream cheese, dyed GOLD*

Green leaf lettuce to garnish

Red, yellow, strips of bell pepper, celery sticks, crackers for serving

With clean hands, in large bowl, combine all cheeses, hot sauce, Worcestershire, mayo, and scallions. On a large platter (extra credit for gold!), or any awesome holiday plate, form a five-point star, about two inches high. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight, uncovered is fine. You can also form the cheeseball on a cake board (10”) or plain flat plate so will fit more easily in fridge. Place board or flat plate later on your decorative platter, on a bed of green leaf lettuce to help anchor.

Next day, frost with gold* whipped cheese.

You can refrigerate again for an hour or so to get the whipped cheese to set up but be sure to let star sit out for an hour or two before the party so guests can slice easily with cheese spreaders. Serve with crudités and crackers as desired.

*GOLD whipped cream cheese: Gel coloring is required for this – I like Americolor’s “Dijon” – I find it’s the closest you can get to gold – usually other gel “golds” will just look like yellow. I also use a metallic gold gum arabic “edible glitter” from Celebakes that doesn’t add sweet to the savory cheeseball, PLUS enhances the sparkle and "bazzaz"!
